Esports World Cup 2024 Europe Closed QualifierCloud9 to use PashaBMW as stand-in for Esports World Cup qualifier
The Volna rifler will fill the spot left by electroNic, whose move to Virtus.pro on Monday left Cloud9 without a fifth player.
Cloud9 will play the Esports World Cup Europe Closed Qualifier with Pavel "PashaBMW" Tishchenko as a stand-in, following the sudden departure of Denis "electroNic" Sharipov to Virtus.pro on Monday.
The 21-year-old joins on loan from Volna, who are in the middle of their YaLLa Compass Spring campaign but have no matches scheduled over the weekend of the qualifier.
electroNic's transfer was completed just in time for ESL Pro League Season 19's roster lock, too late for Cloud9 to register a replacement, and the American organization has since withdrawn from the event in Malta. The closed qualifier will be the team's first appearance since his exit.
PashaBMW is no stranger to the role. He made his name as a stand-in for Heroic at ESL One: Road to Rio in 2020, and in 2021 he filled in for Spirit at DreamHack Open November and the ESL Challenger Anaheim qualifier while under contract with Kometa. In 2023, his first year with Volna, he averaged a 1.33 rating over 126 maps.
"electroNic leaving was a surprise for everybody, and they needed somebody who can play in Russian and learn the calls in two days," PashaBMW told HLTV. "Volna said yes because we don't play this weekend. It's a chance to play against Eternal Fire and to fight for a spot at a big LAN, I am not going to waste it."
Only one spot at Esports World Cup 2024 in Riyadh is on offer in the four-team, double-elimination bracket. Cloud9 open against Sashi on Friday, with Eternal Fire and BetBoom meeting in the other opening match.
