YaLLa Compass 2024PashaBMW named MVP of YaLLa Compass 2024
Six years into his career, the Volna rifler played his first big LAN, won it, and took home the MVP medal on the back of a 1.55 rating.
Pavel "PashaBMW" Tishchenko has been named the HLTV MVP of YaLLa Compass 2024 after leading Volna to a 2-1 win over Ninjas in Pyjamas in the grand final in Abu Dhabi. It is the seventh MVP medal of the 21-year-old's career, and the first he has won at a LAN.
PashaBMW's career began in 2018, his best year came during the online era of 2020, and all of the more than 600 maps on his record before this week were played online. YaLLa Compass was the first LAN of his career at this level, and he finished it at the top of almost every leaderboard.
The Russian ended the event with a 1.55 rating over 11 maps, the highest in the field, along with 108.2 ADR, 1.00 kills per round, and a KAST of 79.5%. His rating was 43% higher than the Volna average.
Volna topped Group A with four wins from five best-of-ones, the only defeat coming against Astralis, and PashaBMW set the tone early with 27-9 in the 13-7 win over ENCE. The rematch with Astralis in the semi-final was the closest call of the tournament: after the teams traded Nuke and Mirage, Volna won Ancient 22-19 in triple overtime, with PashaBMW going 39-25 on the decider.
The grand final started the same way. Ninjas in Pyjamas took Ancient 16-12 in overtime despite PashaBMW's 32-13, but Volna answered with a 13-7 on Mirage and closed the series out 13-6 on Nuke, where PashaBMW finished with 22-13 and a 1.74 rating.
"I waited a long time for a tournament like this, so I'm very happy that we won it," PashaBMW said after the final. "Playing on stage is completely different. You hear the crowd after every round, and in the beginning it's difficult to concentrate, but after the group stage I started to enjoy it."
